Ron Canada recently completed filming TED 2 for Director Seth MacFarlane. His numerous film credits include the box office smash WEDDING CRASHERS as well as the critically acclaimed CINDERELLA MAN (dir. Ron Howard). Notable films include NATIONAL TREASURE, THE HUMAN STAIN, THE UNITED STATES OF LELAND, and THE HUNTED.
Other film appearances include AN AMERICAN PRESIDENT (dir. Rob Reiner) and MAN OF THE HOUSE for Disney. He has worked twice with director Chris Columbus in ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING and HOME ALONE 2 and performed leading roles in ABOVE SUSPICION with Christopher Reeve and Joe Mantegna and LAST OF THE FINEST with Brian Dennehy.
Ron guest starred on STAR TREK (THE NEXT GENERATION, DEEP SPACE NINE and VOYAGER). Additional Guest Star appearances include STARGATE SG-1, BABYLON 5, X-FILES and GRIMM. Ron also performed a leading role in NICK FURY: AGENT OF SHIELD for FOX. He recurred BOSTON LEGAL and WEEDS, Other notable recurs include THE WEST WING (NBC) as well as on the F/X award winning series THE SHIELD, PHILLY, MURDER ONE, CITY OF ANGELS and NYPD BLUE. Guest appearances include ELEMENTARY, BLUE BLOODS, THE CLOSER, LAW & ORDER, FRASIER, MURPHY BROWN, ELLEN, and DOOGIE HOWSER, M.D.
On stage, Ron recently completed HEADSTRONG at New York’s Ensemble Studio Theatre. He performed in the Signature Theatre Co. revival of ZOOMAN AND THE SIGN (Nominated for an AUDELCO Award) and has starred as "Iago" opposite Patrick Stewart's "Othello" in an acclaimed and provocative production of the play at the National Shakespeare Theater of Washington, DC. Having worked extensively in the American theater, Ron won a Dramalogue Award for Outstanding Performance for his work in THE BOYS NEXT DOOR. He has starred in Los Angeles productions of MACBETH, MISS JULIE and Romulus Linney's LOVE SUICIDE AT SCHOFIELD BARRACKS (dir. Harris Yulin). The later two productions played at The Odyssey Theater. He performed at The Mark Taper Forum in THE TASK and PRIVATE BATTLE. At San Diego's Old Globe Theater, Ron originated the role of "Joe Louis" in the world premiere of MR. RICKEY CALLS A MEETING and was the second actor in the country to play "Troy Maxon" in August Wilson's FENCES for The GeVa Theater, while James Earl Jones was performing it in Chicago. Other favorite roles include the title role in SIZWE BANZI IS DEAD (San Jose Rep.), "Midge Carter" in I'M NOT RAPPAPORT (Cincinnati Playhouse) and every Shakespearean role he has ever performed. He recently directed the NY production of THE INVESTED at the 4th Street Theatre as well as LIGHTS UP ON THE FADE OUT at the Lillian Theater in LA.
He began his professional acting career at Washington D.C.'s Arena Stage after achieving acclaim and an Emmy Award (1977) in the broadcast news world. His broadcasting career also includes hosting Public Affairs programs for Maryland Public Broadcasting, 1980-1985, being a former news broadcaster for The Voice of America (USIA), and Ron won the Associated Press Broadcasters Award for the Washington Area in 1978. He is a graduate of the Michelle Clark Broadcast News Program at the Columbia University School of Journalism. Ron studied acting at Washington, D.C.’s Folger Theatre under the tutelage of Franchelle Stewart Dorn. Ron is a native of New York City (Manhattan). He attended CCNY as an undergrad and attended the famed DeWitt Clinton high school in the Bronx.
