Karim El Hakim

Karim El Hakim is an American/Egyptian Director, Producer, Cinematographer, and emerging Actor with over 25 years of experience as a filmmaker. His latest project as an Actor is in the role of “Khonshu” (Performer) in Marvel/Disney+'s Moon Knight (2022), Directed by Mohamed Diab. Previously, Karim appeared as “Louis” in Paranormal (2020), the first Netflix-Original series filmed in Egypt, Produced by Mohamed Hefzi and Directed by Amr Salama.

As a Producer, his latest release is red-hot feature documentary, As I Want (Directed by Samaher Alqadi) which premiered in competition at Berlinale Encounters 2021 and was nominated for the Documentary Award. It also screened at CPH:DOX in the F:ACT Award competition and at IDFA Best of Fests 2021, +50 major film festivals worldwide while winning 18 International Film awards so far since it's premiere.

As a Director, his film 1/2 Revolution (Focus Features) premiered at Sundance 2012 and was nominated for Best Documentary as part of the World Cinema Documentary Competition. It also won numerous international awards including the Audience Award at Karama Human Rights Film Festival in 2012. Karim has also Produced and shot a handful of influential Egyptian short fiction films including Fisheye by Ahmed Khaled and House of Flesh by Rami Abdul Jabbar -both films won Best Director and the latter earned Karim a Best Cinematography Award at the Egyptian National Cinema Awards in 2005. As a Cinematographer, Karim has contributed to many award-winning feature documentaries and has worked with renown Directors Alex Gibney (My Trip To Alqaeda), and Tahani Rachid (Giran) among many others. He has also personally helmed over 100 hours of broadcast television as Director of Photography on 5 major Egyptian TV series.

Karim started his career as a photographer and music video director in Boston, MA. during the 90's working with notable bands including G. Love & Special Sauce, and Morphine. He learned his acting craft at The Actor's Gang Theatre Company in Hollywood, CA . Karim conducts acting workshops at Fontainebleau School of Acting in France (FONACT) as a visiting Artist. He speaks 3 languages and graduated from Tufts University in Medford, MA with a degree in Art and the History of Art & Architecture ('91). He lives in France.
